FBK Welcomes The University of Malta

FBK welcomed the University of Malta on September 21, 2022. Adrian Muscat, professor at the Department of Communications and Computer Engineering at the University of Malta, visited the Fondazione Bruno Kessler and gave a seminar titled “Person kicking ball: When Vision meets Language”.

During the seminar, Adrian presented his work on detecting relationships between objects in images in computer vision and language research. This work finds application, for example, in Visual Question Answering and Image Caption Generation as applied to robotics. It was a very nice and interesting talk, discussing how well classical machine learning and deep neural networks can explicitly or implicitly detect or generate relations! Although there is still a long way to go and open issues to be solved, the journey Adrian took the audience on this topic was very inspiring!

Additionally, Adrian’s presence at FBK was an excellent occasion to meet in person as both University of Malta and FBK are partners in MARVEL! Adrian visited FBK’s labs (E3DA and SpeechTek) and both partners updated each other on the ongoing work!
