MARVEL at the Fourth BalkanCom 2021
The Fourth International Balkan Conference on Communications and Networking, BalkanCom 2021 took place on the 20th and 21st of September, 2021. The BalkanCom is currently an independent conference organized by its steering committee through a non-profit organization registered in the USA with the sole purpose of organizing a BalkanCom conference. The conference was therefore not organized by the IEEE or any other large organization (with the aim of keeping registration fees at a level acceptable to the Balkan region). The conference is technically co-sponsored by the IEEE (IEEE Chapter Serbia and Montenegro and IEEE Communication Society Section Serbia and Montenegro).
The BalkanCom conference is held annually in a country of the Balkan Peninsula. The goal of the conference is to bring together researchers in academia, research labs and industry from all over the world to the region. The theme of this year’s conference was “Wireless Future in the New Decade”, which is relevant to the MARVEL’s focus on smart cities development. Nikola Simic from UNS presented the paper “Extreme Scale Data Analytics for Smart Cities Environments”, but also several other researchers from UNS consortium attended the conference live or virtual (Dragana Bajovic, Srdjan Sobot, Milica Petkovic, Dragisa Miskovic, Aleksandar Minja).
Communicating MARVEL research with about 60 participants is the main outcome of the event and the received feedback from the communications with multimodal machine learning community can be considered as the added value.
